Ashton Junior College has an athletics team which is very competitive.

Athletics is a first term sport. At the end of every year, we have our Inter House athletics meeting where all students from Grade 4 – 7 try out for field events: high jump, long jump and shot put. From these results the team is chosen for the following year. We have run offs in all age groups from u/7 to u/13 to determine the track athletes: sprints and middle distance athletes.

Once we have our athletics team, we then participate against our independent schools (SISA schools). From here athletes, who have achieved a first or second place, are chosen to participate in the Greater Benoni Championship. The areas that are represented in this meeting are Benoni, Kempton Park and Germiston.

Ashton often has athletes who go to the D17 championships.
