Congratulations to our alumnus Douglas Martin (who matriculated in 2009), whose groundbreaking company MiAlgae is transforming the fight against overfishing and carbon emissions!
Using their patented fermentation process, MiAlgae produces Omega-3-rich algae as a sustainable alternative to fishmeal, saving 2.4 million fish from being caught in just the past six months and recycling enough wastewater to fill 300 Olympic-sized pools in a year.
Earlier this month, Douglas and MiAlgae reached the global stage as finalists in the Earthshot Prize Awards, founded by Prince William and hosted in Cape Town, standing out from over 2,000 entries.
